How many questions are on the P&C exam?
It depends on your state. The combined P&C exams we checked carry 125 scored questions in Georgia and 160 in Florida, with every other combined exam in between, plus a few unscored pretest items. Three states split Property and Casualty into two exams with their own counts (sources in the table, checked October 8, 2026).
Georgia's combined exam has 125 scored questions (Pearson VUE Georgia handbook) and Florida's General Lines Agent (2-20) exam has 160. Each figure belongs to one state. There is no national P&C exam, so no single count is right for every candidate.

One exam or two
| Setup | States | What the count covers |
|---|---|---|
| One combined exam | Texas, Georgia, Florida, Pennsylvania, New York, California, Ohio, Michigan, Virginia | The whole P&C license in one sitting |
| Two separate exams | Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey | One line per exam; you pass both to hold both lines |
| Combined, single lines also offered | Georgia, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania | Each single-line exam has its own count and clock |
What the count tells you
In Texas, 100 of the 130 scored items come from the general block and 30 from Texas law (Pearson VUE Texas content outline, effective September 1, 2026). The general block draws on national concepts: risk and the contract, homeowners, the personal auto policy, commercial property and liability. That is the part the P&C practice test drills. The state block you learn from your own state's outline, and the Texas P&C license guide walks through that state's route from exam to license.
A larger count means the exam samples more ground; it does not change the four-option format. Two other numbers frame the count. The P&C passing score by state tells you how many items you can miss, and the P&C exam time limits tell you how long each one gets.
Counting questions, state by state
Why do Illinois and New Jersey list two counts?
Both test Property and Casualty as separate exams, so each line has its own count. New Jersey lists 79 Property and 91 Casualty items; Illinois splits each line again into a General and a State exam (vendor bulletins, checked October 8, 2026).
What do Pearson VUE, PSI and Prometric have to do with it?
They run the test centers and publish the candidate handbooks; the state decides the content. In the states we checked, Pearson VUE delivers in Texas, Georgia, Florida, Illinois and North Carolina, PSI in Pennsylvania, New York, California, Ohio, New Jersey and Michigan, and Prometric in Virginia (checked October 8, 2026).
Which state's exam has the most questions?
Of the combined exams we checked, Florida's 2-20: 160 scored plus 15 pretest, with 3 hours to finish (Pearson VUE Florida handbook, checked October 8, 2026). The Florida 2-20 license page covers the rest of that route.
Does Pearson VUE sell P&C practice tests?
Its Georgia and Illinois handbooks say Pearson VUE offers practice tests in Life, Health and Property and Casualty (checked October 8, 2026). Our free P&C practice questions cover the general block only, with a note on every wrong option.
